MISSION
The Next IT Girl is a technology education nonprofit changing the face of technology. We're bridging the gap by connecting students and businesses to create an ecosystem of innovation and drive the change we need to see in tech.
OVERVIEW
Digital Design meshes technology and creativity together. Students will learn and apply design tools and techniques in Procreate, Figma, and Calligraphr. This curriculum will show students not only the many different possible career opportunities in technology, but how they can express themselves creatively while incorporating technology as well. During this one-day course, we will learn the history of font design and how to create fonts with multiple software apps for personal branding. Students will also get the opportunity to understand and apply design briefs and be able to create projects for clients.
The main objective of this workshop is to introduce the systematic structure of a type design process, focusing on the basic conceptual foundations of the craft, including techniques and best practices for drawing and designing.
Participants will then practice the strategies, sketches, and fundamental aspects of making letters, get feedback on their projects, while they also learn various lessons about typography and—why not?—life.
This workshop is suitable for those who are just beginning to think about type design, and for those with some experience in drawing letters (calligraphy, lettering, etc.). We'll be exploring with design software Figma, Procreate, and Calligraphr.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Understand the basics of letter construction with software apps.
- Learn techniques, tips, and tricks for drawing letters.
