*NOTE:  This program will be held in-person in Atlanta, GA.

MISSION

We help young women of color across the nation discover, pursue, and succeed in technology-related careers.

 

OVERVIEW

The ‘IT Girl’ Cybersecurity Awareness Month workshop is a one day digital and hands on awareness program for girls ages 10-16 to learn in-demand cyber technology concepts and resolutions. Additionally, our workshops and programs focus on discovering, pursuing, and succeeding in technology through the exposure of technical concepts. Students do not need to have any prior technical experience, and all materials will be provided. We ask all students at least have a strong desire to learn more about technology.

WHO MAY APPLY

Our program is open to young women of color ages 10-16. No technology experience necessary! We accept students based on a number of criteria including their interest level and aspiration of technology. Although this workshop serves young women of color The Next IT Girl does not discriminate based on gender, race, or nationality.

 

CYBERSECURITY DETAILS

Students ARE required to be present for the entire duration of the scheduled session on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Therefore, please schedule other appointments for times outside of the workshop hours. Please note that this is NOT an overnight workshop and workshop duration is for only three hours. Two separate program tracks are offered, each with different curriculum and skill level, providing your student with the opportunity to understand the technical concept as it best relates to their age group.

 

CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS WORKSHOP DETAILS

2022 CYBERSECURITY DETAILS:  

Session A:  (Beginner; ages 10-12)

Saturday, October 15th, 2022

10:00AM - 1:00PM

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
  • To understand the nature, scope and importance of cyber security are explained, and key concepts are justified and explored.
  • Students will explore the risks and vulnerabilities of everyday applications and softwares.
  • Students will identify potential cyber threats, attacks, and hacks and create resolutions to avoid breaches.

This program is a mix of web-based simulations and hands-on activities. Beginner students will explore the risks and vulnerabilities of online gaming and be able to identify possible risks. Intermediate students will identify and explore potential cyber threats and create a way to mediate and apply cyber defense practices. Together we will investigate cyber-related topics, reflect on them and discuss them, create digital presentations, connect with cybersecurity professionals, and engage in collaborative exercises with other students.

 

Technology Requirements: 

    • Ability to utilize basic computer functions

 

AND

 

Session B:  (Intermediate; ages 13-16)

Saturday, October 15th, 2022

10:00AM - 1:00PM

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
  • To understand the nature, scope and importance of cyber security are explained, and key concepts are justified and explored.
  • Students will explore the risks and vulnerabilities of everyday applications and softwares.
  • Students will participate in a hands-on or online simulation showing how career experts evaluate and manage cybersecurity risks.

This program is a mix of web-based simulations and hands-on activities. Beginner students will explore the risks and vulnerabilities of online gaming and be able to identify possible risks. Intermediate students will identify and explore potential cyber threats and create a way to mediate and apply cyber defense practices. Together we will investigate cyber-related topics, reflect on them and discuss them, create digital presentations, connect with cybersecurity professionals, and engage in collaborative exercises with other students.
