*NOTE:  This summer series program will be held virtually (online).

MISSION

We help young women of color across the nation discover, pursue, and succeed in technology-related careers.

 

OVERVIEW

The ‘IT Girl’ Summer Series is a four week digital and hands on exposure learning camp for girls ages 8-16 to learn in-demand technology concepts. Additionally, our workshops and programs focus on discovering, pursuing, and succeeding in technology through the exposure of technical concepts. Students do not need to have any prior technical experience, and all materials will be provided. We ask all students at least have a strong desire to learn more about technology.

 

FEES

Summer Series tuition fees - $100/per student

Financial aid assistance is available, to students that qualify.

 

WHO MAY APPLY

Our summer series is open to young women of color ages 8-16. No technology experience necessary! We accept students based on a number of criteria including their interest level in technology and the popularity of your child's first choice of technology. Although this camp serves young women of color The Next IT Girl does not discriminate based on gender, race, or nationality.

 

SUMMER SERIES DETAILS

Students ARE required to be present at all scheduled sessions every Saturday. Therefore, please schedule other appointments for times outside of the summer series hours. Please note that this is NOT an overnight camp and camp duration is for only two hours, Saturdays only. Two separate program tracks are offered, each with different curriculum and skill level, providing you with the opportunity to choose which track works best for your IT Girl. All required summer series resources will be shipped individually to each student.

2022 SUMMER SERIES DATES:  

Session 1:  ‘Intro To Technology’ (Beginner; ages 8-12)

Saturday, June 4th, 2022 – Saturday, June 25th, 2022

9:30AM - 11:30AM

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
  • To know and understand the common features of computer systems
  • To be able to explain input and output devices, hardware and software
  • To apply understanding to writing algorithms and programming a micro:bit

This program is designed to engage young minds and help them advance from being merely computer users to creators. Participants will learn the basics of technology, history, and creating using computers through activities. They will apply their programming skills to create simple programs, animations and games.

 

Technology Requirements: 

    • PC or Mac Computer/Laptop with Webcam
    • USB port
    • High speed Broadband Internet Connection is Required
    • Most recent release of Chrome or Firefox web browser
    • Ability to download and install software
    • Zoom

 

OR

 

Session 2:  'Web Design' (Intermediate; Ages 13-16)

Saturday, June 4th, 2022 – Saturday, June 25th, 2022

12:00PM - 2:00PM

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
  • Teaches students how to build their own web pages.
  • Students will learn the languages HTML and CSS, and will create their own live homepages to serve as portfolios of their creations.
  • By the end of this course, students will be able to explain how web pages are developed and viewed on the Internet, analyze and fix errors in existing websites, and create their very own multi-page websites.

This Web Design course is designed for complete beginners with no previous background in computer science. The course is highly visual, dynamic, and interactive making it engaging for students new/experienced to computer science. Students will be able to use their own personal interests and creativity to drive their development process.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Parents/Guardians, please select via the available application buttons below. Please submit one application per student. Please only select the 'financial aid' application if you are in need of tuition financial assistance. Application must be completed entirely to be considered for the summer series.

 

CANCELLATION POLICY

We understand that circumstances change, if you must cancel then please be aware of these policies and dates:

  • Before April 15th, full refund of tuition fees will be issued.
  • Before May 1st, only a 50% refund of tuition fees will be issued.

  • After May 1st, there will be NO refund of tuition fees.*

*In the event of illness or family emergency we will review each refund request on a case by case basis*

 

2022 Summer Series Application Deadlines

  • Summer Series applications open: Monday, February 28th, 2022

  • Summer Series applications close: Friday, April 29th, 2022

  • Tuition & registration forms due: Friday, May 6th, 2022
